Man faces premeditated murder charge after woman dies in his apartment

A 48-year-old man appeared in Broward County court on Monday to face a premeditated murder charge.

Deputies booked Evan Rosenthal, who will be turning 49 later this month, into the Broward County main jail on Sunday and they were holding him without bond.

Margate police officers arrested him after finding a woman dead on Saturday night at his apartment in the Viewpointe gated community, according to Lt. Al Banatte.

“Rosenthal murdered the victim inside the residence,” Banatte wrote.

Detective Michael Berryman identified the victim as Laurie Bellshim and reported she died about 7 p.m., at 5510 Lakeside Dr., in apartment 205, according to Banatte. She was 69.

Broward County property records show Rosenthal co-owned the two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with Ilene Rosenthal, of Tamarac, since 1995.

Records show he didn’t have a criminal record in Broward or Miami-Dade counties. Rosenthal, a father, filed for divorce in 2015, Broward records show. On Facebook and YouTube, he appeared to have performed with the Project X band in Broward County.

Berryman is asking anyone with information about the murder to call him at 954-972-7111.
