Professional athletes tee off, raise funds for The Carey Family Foundation

The Carey Family Foundation, founded by former Miami Dolphins lineman Vernon Carey, hosted its 13th annual Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament this month.

The event took place at Plantation Preserve Golf Club.

Carey was joined by his family, including his son and namesake, Vernon Carey Jr. of the Washington Wizards, along with more than 20 professional athletes.

“We are very thankful to our sponsors for their continued support to help us raise funds so we can grow the foundation and continue to give children in the community a vision of hope,” said Vernon Carey Sr.

The Carey Family Foundation creates programs and provides support to encourage the improvement of South Florida youth.

The money raised from the tournament will fund scholarships for seniors at three Miami-Dade County high schools (Miami Carol City High School, Miami Northwestern High School and Miami Central High School), as well as food distributions, youth athletics, and literacy and education programs.
