Surfside building collapse: 6 more killed identified, including girl age 14
Detectives identified six more victims of the Surfside building collapse on Thursday as the search and recovery operation continued at the site of the former Champlain Towers South.
The youngest of the six killed is 14-year-old Valeria “Vale” Barth Gómez. Search crews pulled remains out of the rubble at 8777 Collins Ave., Sunday, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Detectives reported search crews also found the girl’s parents dead. They found the remains of her father, Luis Fernando Barth, 51, an attorney, and her mother, Catalina Gómez, 45, on July 10. They were from Medellin, Colombia.
Here is the list of the other five victims detectives identified Thursday:
Michelle Anna Pazos, 23.
Miguel Leonardo Kaufman and Maria Gabriela Camou Font died in Surfside. Relatives said that had they not changed their travel plans they would probably still be alive. Miguel Leonardo Kaufman, 65, was a grandfather from Uruguay who was visiting his family. He and his wife of 40 years, Maria Gabriela Camou Font, 64, delayed their flight to Montevideo. Rosa Saez, 70, was born in Cuba.
Arnie Notkin, 87, and Myriam Caspi Notkin, 81, died in Surfside. Myriam Notkin, 81, was born in Cuba. She was married to Arnold “Arnie” Notkin, 87, and had worked as a banker and a real estate agent. She quit her position as treasurer of the condo association in 2019. She cited her frustration with the board’s alleged dysfunctional dynamic. Records show they lived in unit 302.Mihai Radulescu, 82, was married to Maria Popa, 79. Records show the couple lived in unit 404.
According to detectives, the official death toll is at 97. Detectives have identified 93 victims. The cause of the 12-story building collapse remains under federal investigation.
