Joe Carollo wins reelection as Miami commissioner for District 3
Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo was reelected on Tuesday night to continue representing District 3.
With 65% of the votes, the 66-year-old former Miami mayor and Doral city manager defeated Quinn Smith, Adriana Oliva, and Miguel Solima.
His victory comes amid a trail of scandals. Carollo led the effort to terminate Chief Art Acevedo after he wrote a memo to the mayor and the city manager accusing him of misconduct.
In a $28 million lawsuit filed by the owners of Ball & Chain in Little Havana, attorneys characterize him as the villain who misused his position to punish their lack of support in 2017.
Most recently, advocates of people who are experiencing homelessness in Miami criticized Carollo’s move to “criminalize poverty” by banning encampments in public property.
This is a developing story.
