Miami Beach orders sudden evacuation of condo building due to unsafe structure notice

Residents of a Miami Beach condo building were forced to suddenly evacuate on Thursday.

According to officials, the City of Miami Beach is posting an unsafe structure notice on the building located at 6969 Collins Avenue.

The notice requires residents to vacate immediately. This is based upon a report from the building’s structural engineer, the city said.

The building contains 164 units.

Residents were told they had until 7 p.m. to get out of the building.

The condo property is in the process of undergoing its 50-year recertification.

According to city officials, significant damage was found in a concrete beam in the garage level.

There has been indication of how long residents will have to stay out of the building or when repairs can begin.
