More Republicans than Democrats turn out to vote early in Miami-Dade
Miami-Dade County Elections Department’s unofficial data showed that as of Monday afternoon about 30% of registered voters had cast their ballots and most were Republican.
According to the department, about 178,000 voters were registered Democrats, more than 182,000 were Republicans, and the rest either didn’t have a party affiliation or belonged to another party.
More Republicans had turned out to vote by Monday afternoon in Miami-Dade County.
The department’s workers were busy counting early voting ballots on Monday. The members of the canvassing board were verifying signatures.
Christina White, Miami-Dade County’s elections supervisor, said the board was also making sure that the equipment used is working properly and the count is accurate.
“Ballots where the signature doesn’t necessarily match, my staff has no authority to reject a ballot so they come before the three-member board to decide if we do feel like the signature matches or not,” White said. “If we say it doesn’t, then that voter is notified and given an opportunity to submit what is a cure affidavit and return it back to us.”
