A North Miami Beach Police officer is in serious condition after a female suspect allegedly ran him over in Aventura. According to police, the officer was attempting to stop the driver who was involved in a hit-and-run when he was run over.
Police Chief Richard Rand says one of his officers was in the area responding to an unrelated call when he was flagged down by a another driver.
“As the officer was investigating, a suspect struck the officer,” says Chief Rand.
As that officer was on the ground, the woman behind the wheel of the red car tried to drive off — again
“Shots were fired,” he added. “K-9 was deployed, and the female was stopped.”
The shooting occurred in the area of Northeast 172nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard. While the suspect was taken to the Aventura Hospital in stable condition, the officer is now fighting for his life.
“The officer is in serious condition,” added the chief.
Northbound traffic between 172nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard was being rerouted as the investigation continued throughout the afternoon.
