‘Unknown’ man’s body turns up at Oak Grove Elementary in Miami-Dade

Detectives responded to Oak Grove Elementary School after a man’s body turned up in the physical education area in the Gladeview neighborhood, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Police officers closed off the physical education area outside of the public school’s building at 15640 NE 8 Ave., near North Miami Beach. A crime scene investigation car parked near the basketball courts.

Jackie Calzadilla, a spokeswoman for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, said the man was “unknown” to MDCPS employees. The school was not on lockdown and P.E. teachers held classes inside.

Nancy Jesnie, an Oak Grove Elementary student’s mother, said she felt anguish.

“I got a call from Miami-Dade. They didn’t really say anything … They were telling me to check in with the school, how something happened, and to stay calm,” Jesnie said while standing outside of the school.

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office removed the man’s body from the school property to conduct an autopsy as the investigation continued.

Jesnie was reunited with her smiley child, but she wasn’t any calmer.

“It’s just scary because I live right here,” Jesnie said.

Police officers were asking anyone with information about the case to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
