Westbound Sunny Isles Beach bridge reopens after malfunction fixed

Westbound traffic on the Sunny Isles Beach bridge headed toward North Miami Beach shut down for more than an hour Saturday afternoon after the bridge became inoperable, police department spokesperson Sgt. Brian Schnell said.

Schnell said the westbound drawbridge closed but would not stay in place, rendering it unsafe.

Traffic on the bridge, which carries Northeast 163rd Street (Sunny Isles Boulevard), was being rerouted and diverted.

The bridge reopened just before 2:40 p.m., Schnell said.

The westbound bridge over the intracoastal waterway on Sunny Isles Boulevard is malfunctioning. Westbound traffic is being diverted. Please seek an alternate route such as the William Lehman or Broad Causeway. pic.twitter.com/nwwVLEDnzN
