OJ Simpson died of prostate cancer, according to Attorney Malcolm LaVergne, who has been handling his estate, TMZ reported on Friday.

Simpson was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and was in hospice on April 5 in Nevada. He died on April 10. He was 76.

LaVergne disclosed Simpson died at Palm Mortuary in downtown Las Vegas, he was cremated, and his children Arnelle Simpson, 55; Jason Simpson, 53; Sydney Simpson, 38; and Justin Simpson, 35, received his cremains.

Simpson, a former NFL running back, was tried and acquitted in 1996 for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994 in Los Angeles.

A civil court jury in California found Simpson liable for their deaths in 1997 and ruled that he had to pay the Brown and Goldman families a $33.5 million judgment.

Simpson was convicted of armed robbery after stealing two collectibles in 2007 at a hotel in Las Vegas, and he was sentenced to nine years in prison. He was released in 2017.
