Miami-Dade teacher accused of making pornographic video on school campus bonds out of jail

A fine arts teacher at Ronald W. Reagan/Doral Senior High School who faces a felony pornography charge after police said he recorded and exposed himself at school in a video shared on social media bonded out of jail Tuesday Night.

Miami-Dade Schools police arrested Wesly Alvarez, 45, of west Miami-Dade, at the school on Monday afternoon.

Wesly Alvarez.

Alvarez, who lives in the Tamiami area, was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center Tuesday night.

Asked if he was in a relationship with a child at the school he was teaching at, Alvarez said, “Absolutely not.”

He had nothing else to say before getting into a woman’s car with a sweater covering his face.

According to an arrest report, multiple students reported seeing a public Snapchat video of Alvarez exposing himself in front of a bathroom mirror on the campus, located at 8600 NW 107th Ave.

“It is a video of him,” student Michael Granados told Local 10 News. “He was like stroking himself, touching himself on camera, I’m guessing in one of the teachers’ bathrooms and (he) posted it.”

Local 10 News also spoke with student Santiago Fernandez who said he was surprised to hear about the allegations.

“It was weird,” he said. “You wouldn’t expect it, I guess.”

“I don’t think he meant to share it,” said student Hadder Almanzar. “Everybody was like oh, oh my gosh!”

In the video, the art teacher was wearing the same clothing as he wore to work that day, the report states.

“He was wearing the same exact shirt that day; everything was exactly the same,” Granados said.

An alleged confession was redacted from the report.

Local 10 News’ Roy Ramos went to Alvarez’s home Wednesday where no one answered the door.

Neighbor Rolando DeLaVina, who claims he has known Alvarez for more than 30 years, told Local 10 News that he finds it hard to believe the allegations.

“Me and my mom were shocked because he was a very good kid,” said DeLaVina. “He grew up with my kids when they were little.”

Alvarez was fired by the district after the incident and Local 10 News has learned he was also an adjunct professor at Miami-Dade College, who released a statement that read in part:

“We do not condone this behavior,” a district spokesperson said in a statement. “The safety of our students is our utmost priority. Therefore, Miami Dade College has terminated Mr. Alvarez’s employment effective immediately.”

After finding probable cause to charge him Tuesday morning, a judge set his bond at $7,500 and ordered he have no contact with children while the case is pending.
